With regards to the Facebook applications, it's worth noting that the Files application is also powered by boxnet yet just gives you access to your normal boxnet account. None of that silly 20mb for every friend, just access to upload and view/download everything in your 1gb of free storage.

I know a new one: www.yoopyou.com

This is a young site, but I think it’s worth to join now, because Yoopyou will notify you automatically if you are looking for someone and he/she create an account later.
A short briefing:
Yoopyou is a social community where you can find friends, classmates, colleagues, acquaintances, ex-girlfriends or boyfriends or activity partners with the same field of interests you haven’t found on other community websites. In case you do not find them here, Yoopyou will automatically send you a message is they join later. You can browse among events and programs like on Facebook. With a properly uploaded profile and resume you can show yourself to the world, increasing your opportunity for a better job. You can highlight your profile so that others could recognise you easily. You can write your own blog to gather like-minded people around you.

Have a good time!

mike, this is a great list -- think people tend to focus on the top three or four, without thinking there are others that could better fit their niche. great start to the project!

It's interesting to me that MySpace isn't included in the list. A couple of years ago...it would have been included. Most reports would say that MySpace is still the #1 overall social networking site. But Facebook is starting to gain more momentum, especially since it opened itself up to third party apps. I think MySpace is trying to play a little catch-up in that area.

Thanks for putting this list out there.

Have you considered Scholar360? It's an LMS (like Blackboard, Desire2Learn, etc.) but with a unique twist - it was a secure social network FIRST. It combines all the academic features of an LMS with secure social networking features that students and faculty seem to love.
